On behalf of the Department of Basic Science and Humanities (BS&H), I would like to provide an overview of the department's activities and its role in shaping the future of our students. The BS&H department plays a pivotal role in the academic journey of first-year engineering students, focusing on building a strong foundation in core subjects such as Mathematics, English, Physics, and Chemistry. These fundamental disciplines are essential for students to tackle challenges and enhance their problem-solving abilities in their chosen engineering fields.
In addition to the core subjects, the department offers interdisciplinary courses such as Engineering Graphics, Computer Applications, Basic Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, and Environmental Science. These courses are designed to equip students with the knowledge required to address complex challenges at higher levels of their education.
We also emphasize the development of critical soft skills, particularly in areas such as communication, creativity, problem-solving, leadership, and teamwork. Our language experts use various techniques to help students refine their communication skills, particularly in listening and speaking in English. This focus on soft skills ensures that our students are well-prepared for the collaborative and dynamic nature of the engineering industry.
Moreover, the department instills strong human values and ethics in students, fostering a sense of responsibility as future professionals and contributing citizens. These values help students understand societal challenges and navigate both their personal and professional lives with integrity.
The department also focuses on enhancing practical skills through hands-on experiences. The Workshop Practice course allows students to engage in metal joining and fabrication processes, giving them the opportunity to design, manufacture, and innovate. This practical exposure nurtures their creativity and prepares them to contribute to future inventions.
In summary, the BS&H department ensures that first-year students have a solid foundation that will enable them to successfully face the challenges of higher-level engineering education and meet industry demands."
